At one point the Parquet in our foyer was beautiful. Alas that was a long time ago. The finish was badly damaged in many places and pieces were split or popping up in others. We decided that four different flooring styles between the entrance and four rooms downstairs was a bit too much. Since we needed to replace the flooring in the family room and parts of the kitchen it made more sense to just bite the bullet and change it all to matching hardwood.
We also decided to paint the banister black. Of course there were closet interiors of the aqua and fuchsia color varieties. Let’s not forget the closet doors which were “painted” white on the front sides and left their natural wood color on the back and all edges. The finishing touches were the occasional thick, raised paint drips running several inches down the unpainted or painted sides of the doors. In this case, Do it yourself (DIY) should have been prefixed with “PLEASE DONT!” (PDDIY).
